GANG, GANG, GANG, GANG, GANG: NYFW "DAY 1"

by Jamila Pierre

Technically this wasn't day one of NYFW, but it was definitely the first day I stepped on out...so it's my "day one". There were so many events this NYFW that I should've and could've been a part of but the way my health is set up....

Though it was my first day being out and about, it wasn't to attend any events, I was just coming out to hang with some fellow plus community boss babes. It was an opportunity to link up with folks I'd been speaking with through social media for some time. Truth be told I almost didn't come out due to said health issues, but I pushed through, thank God I did. If I hadn't sucked it up as best I could I would've regretted it deeply and missed out on meeting such amazing folk.

Most importantly, I didn't want to miss meeting #SwoobSquad member, Morgot (@MargotMeanie), and I can't wait to finally meet the last of our squad, Tracy (@Bxrtmn). One day we shall all be together to fuck up the city; Ushishi, Margot, Tracy and I, just shuttin' shit down!

When I first found out that Margot was coming down from Canada I was super stoked and knew that I wanted to shoot a boomerang of Ushshi, Margot and I, and send it to Tracy. I had this image of us dancing to the song Gang Gang by MaxP in a boomerang loop. If you go to my Instagram you'll see the end result, It's pretty EPIC if you ask me.

I also had plans to wear some over the top outfit to commemorate NYFW, but truthfully, I was more interested in being super comfy; we were gonna be gallivanting around Chinatown so comfort was paramount.  So I threw on this Killstar "So Goth I'm Dead" shirt-dress, my tried and true plaid button down with the vertebra print on the back (almost rocked the blk &wht plaid with the skull on back but I felt it would've been overkill and not in a good way), chucked on some cat-eyed shades, donned my ruff and tough Afro puffs, and paired it all with my "I Don't Care" leggings from (you'll never guess.... Rainbow) and my "I wanna be comfortable but not at the cost of a frumpy sneaker" leatherette kicks from the Christian  Siriano collection at Payless (which at their prices these days should be called Paymore). And by no means are all sneakers frumpy, but you get where I'm coming from....right?

Overall I was pretty pleased with my look and was as comfortable as one could be though they've made the grave mistake of wearing leggings with satin underwear. I knew I was making a mistake...but I did it anyway. I had to hold my leggings up while I traipsed around Chinatown (thank the lord my top was long enough to cover my struggle, because there was a moment where if my top wasn't as long as it was....the world would've gotten a clear look at my ass).

After some pre-lunch at the Chinatown Market, we hit up Magic Jewelry to get our auras photographed and read. In accordance to the woman who read my aura, I am completely in-tune, sensitive to my surroundings, highly intelligent and creative, scatter brained at the moment because so much is going on and if I thought this week was busy...I had no idea for the weeks ahead. Apparently all my chakras are open, and I'm definitely in need of a bit-o-sleep.

Based on what I researched online: By Ginni Aneja

Purple Aura people are highly psychic, attuned to the emotions and moods of others and very sensitive. People who have a predominant amount of purple in their Aura are seen as mysterious and secretive.

The Purple Aura individual possesses a philosophical, enquiring and intuitive mind. They love to learn and never stop exploring and enquiring into new subjects and areas that interest them. Because of this they tend to be extremely interesting and knowledgeable people.

The Purple Aura individual does not have a wide circle of many friends. But the friends they do have are held close and are respected, admired and loved. People with a predominant purple Aura tend to be unlucky in love but once they have found their perfect soul mate are loyal and loving for life.

Purple Aura people connect well with animals and nature. They are attuned to animals and can sense their emotions and feelings. Purple Aura people tend to take in and care for strays as their loving and caring nature makes it difficult for them to turn strays away.

A white aura is a pure state of light. Often represents a new, not yet designated energy in the aura. Spiritual, etheric and non-physical qualities, transcendent, higher dimensions. Purity and truth; angelic qualities. White sparkles or flashes of white light: angels are nearby; can indicate that the person is pregnant or will be soon.

Silver Aura people are exceptionally gifted. How they use their gifts wisely is their life lesson. Silver Aura individuals are bestowed with sensitivity, intuitiveness, psychic ability and practicality. They can use their spiritual understanding in very practical ways. Because of this they can relate to many people and are often found in teaching, mentoring or counselling roles.

Silver Aura people have immense versatility and adaptability and are capable of getting the most out of virtually every opportunity in life. Their high intellect enables then to make the right decisions quickly and follow through with action.

People who have predominant silver Auras are seen as very attractive. They attract many admirers. But Silver Aura people are very discerning and choose their friends carefully and their lovers very carefully.

Indigo relates to the third eye, visual and pituitary gland.Intuitive, sensitive, deep feeling.

Violet relates to crown, pineal gland and nervous system. The most sensitive and wisest of colors. This is the intuitive color in the aura, and reveals psychic power of attunement with self.Intuitive, visionary, futuristic, idealistic, artistic, magical.

Lavender relates to imagination, visionary, daydreamer, etheric.

Dark grey is a residue of fear is accumulating in the body, with a potential for health problems, especially if gray clusters seen in specific areas of the body.

Black draws or pulls energy to it and in so doing, transforms it. It captures light and consumes it.Usually indicates long-term unforgiveness (toward others or another) collected in a specific area of the body, which can lead to health problems; also, entitities within a person's aura, chakras, or body; past life hurts.

The middle aura photo is Alysse (@readytostare), and the far right is Margot's aura photograph. The woman also said that there was a deep connection between Alysse and I (though we just met) because our auras aligned. Overall the reading mirrored what each of us was going through at the moment so it was a 20 spot well spent (if not for the experience and photograph keepsake alone)

We stopped by a Tony Moly shop on our way to my favorite lo mein spot (for our ACTUAL lunch), and finished the day off with a little bit of ice cream. I had my most favorite flavor of ice cream to date (black sesame), from a tiny place that smells all sorts of divine upon opening the door, Taiyaki.

BITCH I'M BLANCHE....MS. DEVERAUX IF YOU'RE NASTY.

by Jamila Pierre

Okaaaaaayyyyy, let's get y'all all the way together You know, YOU KNOW, I had to get this Golden Girls realness in my life, right?

A few months back I just so happen to be perusing the ASOS site and came across this kimono and all its majesty. I wanted to get it right then and there but the price tag made for hesitation. There it sat among the many tabs I had open, for weeks. Why did I do that?

It didn't take long for it to become sold out, I was so pissed! Even though I knew it would sell out with the quickness once the plus community caught wind, I was still in my feelings about it. And to make matters worse I kept seeing it on my timeline and in YouTube hauls. It just gave me the SUPER regrets. I checked to see if it had been returned (making it available again for purchase) and all I could find was the straight sized version. So you know what I did....? I went ahead and scoured the interwebs for a coupon code (as to lessen the blow of the hefty well worth it price tag), and I bought the largest straight-size possible. I  then crossed my fingers for the miracle of it fitting.

When I got it in the mail and tried that puppy on, it juuuuuust fit me. It went on but was difficult to get off, and though the though and actual physical action of taking it off produced anxiety, I wasn't gonna let that stop me from wearing it. I had found the kimono of my dreams and I refused to let it slip through my fingers.

Literally a week later, I thought to myself, "Imma just look on ASOS again and just maybe they'll have it in the size I actually need..." What do ya know, there it was, in my size, making alllllllllllll of my kimono dreams come true. So I did what any person who titter totters between sane and insane would do, I bought that BISH!

IMG_6247.jpg

So there you have it, the story of how I came upon this jackpot and how I now am the proud owner of two pricey but well worth it, kimonos, that will always steal the show.

By the way......I really don't need the smaller sized kimono (although I don't mind having it...I'm sure I'll find use for it), so if anyone wants to buy it from me.....hit me up, yes?

Now, let's talk about the feels this kimono gives. It's def a "Bitch I'm Blanche...Ms Deveraux if you're nasty" type of garment. The sequin shine is on one hundred and the color palette holds its weight as well. I felt that the best way to give this piece the space to razzle dazzle was to wear all black under it. I do feel that a nice light denim and a white plain v-neck tee would also hit the spot if I wanted to spice up a casual look as well, but I wanted to live in a somewhat fancy space for now.

IMG_6212.jpg

I kept the jewels fairly simple though still sizable, and I threw on black suede ankle booties, keeping it streamlined. Lastly, I went with an equally reflective pair of sunnies that tied in the color scheme of the kimono to seal the deal.

In the upcoming posts I WILL be talking all about my Fall Lust-Haves I'll be doing it in sections (Jackets, Bottoms, Shoes, etc..), hope you'll enjoy the list! See ya soon my foxy babe.
