This here is my Home Skillet, Amy, we've been friends since....well, since what seems like forever (18yrs). Our friendship has withstood some tumultuous times over the course of more than a decade and some how we've managed to arrive at the brink of two decades.
How many people can you say that about?
Her and I had to make some serious changes within ourselves in order to coexist the way that we do now and the love, how ever obvious or not, was always there and may very well always be.
We’ve had an over abundance of good times and memorable moments and have grown to love each other more and most importantly, we've learned how to show our love to one another, unapologetically.
Sounds like a love story....?
Well here's the thing, when it comes to true friendship, there are no limitations to how much you can love that person. I love and treat my friends like family and would do all that I could for them just like I would do for family, my friends ARE very much so my family and my heart is wide open for them to take up residence in it.
And in a time where people throw the notion of, let alone the words, "friendship" or "BFF" around like money at a strip club (very rarely knowing what it takes to be an actual friend or how to entertain the idea of being selfless), it's nice to have an oldie but a goodie in your life's corner.
In a recent conversation she told me she looks to me for strength, how ever flattering the notion, little does she know that in my opinion she herself is the pillar of strength. She has managed through extreme trials and tribulations to push on and rise to the top.
For her there's no other option and the mere possibility of her reaching her goal, no matter how out of reach it may seem, gives her just the right amount of motivation to push through it all.
To me this is strength, this is beautiful, and it makes me proud to be a feature in the film of her life.
It's amazing how a friendship can be like forging steel into a sword. There's the beginning stages when you start with a hunk of metal and the potential is there, the possibilities are endless and exciting. Then there's the middle stages, here lies the moments when your friendship endures the most pressure and stress, it's when your friendship is put to the test.
Can your friendship make it past the height of creation, can it be molded without breaking under the pressure?
Then there's the moments leading up to completion, this is when you get to put the finishing touches on your collaborative work of art.
Lastly comes the completion, this is when you get to sit back and enjoy your collective efforts at an everlasting friendship.
Like the sword, if you played your cards right, your friendship would have been made well, be able to withstand wear and tear, and be the deadliest mother fucking weapon you've ever come encountered with.
But remember, as sharp and deadly as this sword may be... it will still need to be sharpened from time to time, so never be without a means of sharpening your relationships...keep em' lethal.
