Leo: The Heart

by Jamila Pierre

July 23rd - August 22nd

Symbol: The Lion

Element: Fire

Ruling Planet: The Sun

Body Part: Heart, upper back, spine

Secret Wish: To rule the world

"The Sun is the center of our solar system and the ruler of Leo. When the whole universe revolves around you, it's hard to be humble! Like the Sun, Leo heats everything up with its dazzling drama. Even the Leos who pretend to be shy come to life in the spotlight. A natural-born leader, you love to be the boss. Leos need mega-doses of praise and appreciation, which may cause people to think you're self-centered. The truth is, you have a huge heart, and you're the zodiac's most generous sign. You're always there to help, spoil, and protect the people you love."

"Leo like to be noticed! In all aspects of their life, including fashion, getting noticed is their top priority. In doing so, they enjoy wearing animal prints, leather, faux fur, silk, sequins and any other items that draws attention. Leo is great at expressing their mood of the day through their fashion. They tend to dress in a style that represents their current feelings and emotions. Leo often have a hard time taming it down during the day, after all, their symbol is a lion. However, with a little creativity, they can still show their wild side in their outfits."

When I think of the Leo sign, I think of loud, bold, and shameless. I also think of bold prints, luxe textiles, and garments that push the boundaries of what's norm. Even if they're not doing a print, their ensemble speaks volumes.

Chartreuse And Ikat.

by Jamila Pierre

I think it's safe to say that I have a few color obsessions, and that I don't really follow the seasonal color scheme rules.

Chartreuse has definitely earned it's spot on the color obsession list and so have all of it's color relatives (Lime & Pea green, and however unpleasant the description, some shades of baby excrement). I am also a fan of bold and/or unexpected color pairings. I believe in going, not matching, unless I'm going monochrome from head to toe.

I also appreciate making people have a strong feeling about what i'm wearing whether it be good or bad.

Another obsessshhh I've added to the list is the IKAT print.

"The defining characteristic of ikat is the dyeing of patterns, by means of bindings, into the threads before cloth construction, the weaving of the fabric, takes place. Herein lies the difference between ikat and tie-dye. In tie-dye the fabric is woven first and the resist bindings are then applied to the fabric which is dyed." - Wikipedia

Funny how knowing the origin of certain things can make it that much more special.

This  is a print that has slowly made it's way into my wardrobe because of it's resemblance to tie-dye and while it may be a 3rd cousin of the tie-dye print by mimicking it's whimsical nature, it is very much so far more chic.

Unfortunately I only own two garments with this print but as all things, that will change.
