Chartreuse And Ikat.

by Jamila Pierre

I think it's safe to say that I have a few color obsessions, and that I don't really follow the seasonal color scheme rules.

Chartreuse has definitely earned it's spot on the color obsession list and so have all of it's color relatives (Lime & Pea green, and however unpleasant the description, some shades of baby excrement). I am also a fan of bold and/or unexpected color pairings. I believe in going, not matching, unless I'm going monochrome from head to toe.

I also appreciate making people have a strong feeling about what i'm wearing whether it be good or bad.

Another obsessshhh I've added to the list is the IKAT print.

"The defining characteristic of ikat is the dyeing of patterns, by means of bindings, into the threads before cloth construction, the weaving of the fabric, takes place. Herein lies the difference between ikat and tie-dye. In tie-dye the fabric is woven first and the resist bindings are then applied to the fabric which is dyed." - Wikipedia

Funny how knowing the origin of certain things can make it that much more special.

This  is a print that has slowly made it's way into my wardrobe because of it's resemblance to tie-dye and while it may be a 3rd cousin of the tie-dye print by mimicking it's whimsical nature, it is very much so far more chic.

Unfortunately I only own two garments with this print but as all things, that will change.
