Sequin Mustache

by Jamila Pierre

So, even though my birthday was on a Thursday, I took the liberty of celebrating throughout the weekend. I celebrated with all the most important people in my life, on separate days of course. After a night of drinks, another night of movies and fabulous food, and several get out of "diet jail' free cards, I was finally  ready to celebrate the last day of my birth week with my mom and fam.

Funny enough, during all these outings and celebrations, I ended up alone and doing absolutely nothing on my actual birthday. I participated in festivities on  every other day....strange right? But I did want to take my actual birthday for myself. I needed to reflect....dead serious. Lately I have been living deep inside myself and trying to make sense of all the new neuro-connections that have come about within the last year.

For this last celebration of my birthday, I wanted to feel cute and comfy...when don't I want to be cute and comfy...when does anyone not want to be cute and comfy? Anyway, I decided that since it was a tad chilly I would rock a sweatshirt and jeans instead of what I originally wanted to wear, which was a dress. I threw on some shiny flats and kept it pushin'.

You can't go wrong with your most perfect fitting jeans, holographic python flats with metal plated tips, and a sequin mustache sweatshirt. Not to mention the most perfect bag that I purchased so many moons ago and had sitting in a dust bag for over a year... waiting for the right moment to rock it.

What I'm Wearing:

  1. Mustache sweater from Forever21.com. $24.80
  2. Necklace from a street-fair in Chelsea. $2
  3. Bracelet from Forever21. $4.80
  4. Jeans from Forever21. $22.80
  5. Flats from Fabco Shoes. $15 (BOGO Sale)
  6. Bag from Stawberry. $30

Here's a close up of the shoes.

Super thankful that my mom has awesome taste in pastries and took the time to help celebrate my personal New Year. I love her so much!

Thought I'd show you what I wore on a B-Day date night with the hubz. I decided to keep it triple C's (Comfy, Casual, and Cute), with this very easy skater-dress,  my trusty Anorak to fight the chill factor, and you may not be able to see it in this image but I had on my Tall brown boots from Avenue.com.

I would have more images of the outfit, but my camera decided that it was not in the mood to work after my husband took this shot.

What I Wore:

  1. Anorak from Wetseal.com. $15 (from $44)
  2. Dress from Forever21.com. $17.80
  3. Necklace from Telco. $9
  4. Leggings from Rainbow. $7
  5. Boots from Avenue.com. $33.60

Thankfully I was able to take some camera-phone pics of our meal, but that's the extent of it.

Top Left: Salmon w/farro, spring peas, spicy carrot salad, Top Right: Flounder w/braised wild mushrooms, toasted orzo, tomato fondue, roasted asparagus, Bottom Left: Seared Tuna Salad w/string beans, black olive, cherry tomato, roasted pepper, potato, baby spinach, Dijon, Bottom Right: Roasted Tomato Soup cheddar meltMac + Cheese.

When it comes to The Smith, I couldn't be more in love with their menu, their ambiance, and their hospitality. This place is special to me, as I've spent many birthday dinners & brunches there over the past year and a half, so it only seemed right for me to go yet again form my 30th B-Day. The prices aren't for the faint of heart but the food is lush, this is why I mostly reserve this place for special occasions.
