Blogger of the Week – Jamila Pierre

Posted on June 3, 2013

Today’s featured blogger is twenty- nine year old Jamila Pierre, a New York City resident; she’s the founder and creator of NaughtCouture. Take a look at her interview.

1. What is your blog about?

It’s about style, owning who you are, self-improvement and loving you for you at any size, age, gender, etc…It’s about thinking outside of the box and showcasing the lovely styles that come in all shapes and sizes out there from time to time.

2. If you had to describe your blog in three words, what three words would you use?

Creative, Inspiring, REALism.

3. When and why did you start blogging?

I created this Brand/Blog a few months ago to have a venue to express myself and be a positive and creative voice for the plus size state of mind. Though the blog is fairly new in its material form, the idea and cultivation process is not. The scope of content on my blog is based on my personal style, advice and providing a platform for other fabulously stylish folks to express themselves.

4. What was your last blog post about?

It was about how I wear fun prints in a work environment.

5. What does blogging mean to you?

At present it means everything, it’s the place I go to have a voice in order to hopefully inspire self-love, self-respect, and creativity. I hope to get people to create trends as opposed to always being the follower…to use what’s “in” as a guide as opposed to what is and should be.

6. What inspires you the most?

Everything around me, from the leaves that fall in the autumn – to the flowers that bloom in the spring, I pull my inspiration from literally everything.

7. What makes you stand out as a blogger?

Well for starters I’m as real as they come, I’m not too concerned about numbers, I don’t really care what everyone else is doing per se, I’m an individualist, and though I love some of the design aesthetic of some of these high end brands…I’m not a “Label Whore” so my advice and style is affordable and attainable. I encourage out of box thinking and creativity on all levels, and I practice what I preach as best as I can.

8. When you’re not blogging, what are you doing?

Indulging in some of my biggest passions and that’s photography (Truthboxphotography.com),   writing, and reading.

9. Best piece of advice someone gave you / words to live by?

The only person you should be competing against is yourself, never stop pushing forward, always be on the hunt for self-improvement, and be true to yourself at all times.

10. What are your future plans five (5) to eight (8) years from now?

In five to eight years I plan to have made Naught Couture into a Brand, own a magazine or be a writer for one, and have re-launched my photography career (Truthboxphotography.com).

I set out today on a mission, CAPTURE SOME STREET STYLE, and let me tell you I almost came up empty handed. Usually it's not this dry, more people act like they know that today's the day they get accosted to be documented in their fabulosity for some bloggers blog....I do not know what happened today, but it seemed as though those folk were nowhere to be found.

And then it happened, after sheer disappointment I began to spot some people who I deemed worthy of a blog post.  (Check out my "Featured Style" page to see what it is I speak of).

Now I know not everyone in that blog post is donning an outfit that bleeds extravagance, but that's what I was going for. I wanted to demonstrate how having style isn't always about bells and whistles. Sometimes it's a standout fashion show, and other times it's as simple as a plain white Tee, black leggings and an ornate piece of jewelry and/or shoes.

The outfit I'm wearing below is my idea of casual. This is an everyday type of outfit for me and you may have seen/ or will see me wear a variation of this very outfit because honestly it's my go to. If I want to demonstrate my style without too many bells, then this right here my friends is my outfit of the year.
