Pause, nope....I'm not in Tokyo (Lord do I wish), when I tell you that the first place I'd want to travel to and would feel most at home is Tokyo, Japan...with their crashing galaxies of inspired street style.....HEAVEN!
I need to find a way to travel there before I die, it is definitely on my bucket-list.
Granted I wouldn't need to go far to see where part of their influences come from, I mean Growing up on the Lower East Side of MannyHatty, meant I grew up with and around this influence all around me...starting young. I am aware that this whole world (and street fashion/style in general) is a melting-pot of inspiration pulled from different cultures and the reworkings of Le vast imagination of all creatives. But there's something about the vibration, the steady flow of creativity that surrounds you and has the potential to stick to your person like a layer of film, permeate your being, and jolt you out of your sleep...back to life.
I've always been fascinated by that place, always wanted to go, and still very much so want to. One day my beloved Tokyo and I shall meet, I believe we were made for each other.
This look was inspired by their street style, which Tokyo scene do you think I fall under? Comment below.
I honestly considered going into all the ins and outs about the street style of Tokyo, Japan...but we would be here FOR.EV.VER. So I'll just give you a quick list of different style/ "scene" categories, and I'll provide you with the WIKI links if you're interested.
ON TO THE FASHION!!!!
When I saw this suspender dress on Forever21.com tho....
I swear it's like the heavens open up and a light beams down on me and the item, and I know at that moment that we were made for each other...that I also needed to tell all of you about the glory that is this dress. When I first saw the dress I had no idea I was going to do a Tokyo inspire post, until it all kismetiously came together (Yes...I just made up a word...I do that from time to time). I did however, know that this was the ultimate in transitional pieces and GOT DANG IT, I'd be wearing it all year around.
Are you ready to get sick of this dress?
I will be rocking this dress quite frequently, and if you do get this dress (and you're anything like me with how frequently you plan to wear it), I suggest you get a size down unless you're and actual true 1x-3x in women's...and not a juniors. It will be snug regardless, but....it will lose just a tad bit of shape as time goes on. If you are not a psycho, like myself (who plans to wear this like it's the only thing she has in her wardrobe, lol), then you should be fine with just choosing your normal size as usual. I also strongly suggest some controlling undergarments under this dress, gotta get all the jiggly bits in place....or not, if you're into having jiggly bits. Do you boo!
In any event, isn't this dress totally me times eight?!
I paired it with my also very new hidden wedge sneakers from Forevers, which were originally almost $40, marked down to $19, and rung up as $10....TEN @#$$@#%@#$%@ DOLLARS!!!!!!!
YAAAAASSSSSSSSSS!!!! Here's a video with me going off about my recent Forever21 purchases, it'll give you a sneak peek as to what else will be debuting on the blog soon.
I also paired it with my most amazing bird blouse from Simplybe, because I wanted animals with wings on my shoes and on top (plus I loved the reverse of the black & white, yes no?)
"Not every single style choice is golden, but I can respect and appreciate it (from those who live out loud to those who tread more on the minimalist chic side), as long as you have a style and you're owning it...I can dig it." - Jamila Pierre {NaughtCoutuure}
