NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

OOOOOO WEEEEEEEE, I have been a busy bee this week! Just when I thought I'd have a moment to come up for air....nope. Quite frankly I've felt a bit scattered, wired....alive....and worn at the same damn time **CUES FUTURES SONG: SAME DAMN TIME**. So, this weeks playlist may very well reflect the nature of my brainwaves as of late.

***WARNING: There is some Heavy Death Opera Metal on this playlist this week, just one song ;) If you open yourself up to the possibility, I think you'll like it.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. Respect it, enjoy it, and I hope I either introduce you to something or bring back fond memories.

Disclaimer: These are not my songs and I am not claiming them.

LET'S GET STARTED!!!

There you have it, my top ten for this week!

Remember every Saturday I will bring you a new list of my top 10 songs of the week, in this NCS Stereo (NaughtCouture's Saturday Stereo) segment. Most times there's a focus on artists;  here I will be focusing predominately on specific songs, how they make me feel, what I like about the particular song, how I discovered them, and/or  sometimes the memories that come attached to them. This week I went a different route (as I stated earlier), the format may change again in the future weeks to come. Hope you enjoyed my picks for this week, Happy Listening!

NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

There has been a serious up flux of tasks that needed to be handled this week, but honestly, I rather enjoyed having a full schedule. It wasn't filled with events or any other types of outings, nor did I get a chance to spend most of my days with the people in my life...but I did get a lot of work done. I truly feel as though I should find a way to attach all of my tech devices to my extremities, because it doesn't seem like I've been off them much this week (between business emails & phone calls, photo archiving & editing, and getting everything ready for not only the new direction my blog is going to go in...but some pretty big projects I'm going to be a part of). These were def my jams for the week,

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

Not gonna lie, this week was definitely a WOOOOOOSAAAAAHHHH type of week, filled with anger-management-countdowns and such...a good portion of this weeks' listenings reflected this. I then found myself listening to some chilled and "vibed out" tunes that helped put me in a better place. It seriously is amazing the effect music has on ones mood, I honestly don't know what I would do without it. In any event here are my picks for the week, I actually happen to love this weeks playlist very much...if I do say so myself, hope you enjoy it too!

NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

I honestly couldn't tell you what this week consisted of beyond having a massive death cold, which come to find out...a lot of people were afflicted with this past week or so. During all of that a lot of behind the scenes work has been put into action (blog-wise), and I still had to pump out edits (because it seems that when I think I'm done editing photos....there's a shit ton more that needs to be handled. So my playlist ranged from chaotic, to dreary, to I need to get in that "Imma pull an all-nighter zone", to I just wanna lay here and wallow in my own human sludge because I'm too sick to stand and my nose won't stop running...and I refuse to take the tissues out of my nose (TMI much?).

I know sometimes my lists don't have a consistent theme, but that not only pretty much sums up who I am as far as my interests (across the board) and style choice, I also don't want to limit what you listen to at the end of the week. I try to jam as much in there as possible (that's what she said). I honestly listen to far too much music within a week to fit into one little itty bitty playlist, this is my attempt at trying to cover all bases. This may change in the future, I may try and streamline it and become more...how do you say..."Profesh", but for now I hope you're liking the seemingly haphazard nature of my lists.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

This week was a bit of a mod podge of listening pleasures. I went from Trap/Dub, to Rap, to Hip Hop, to some alternative...there was no real consecutive theme here. My mind was all over the place this week, and so were my feels. As the week dwindles down, I acquired a lovely little cold...**Side eye emoji** so my song selection began to match my sentiments as it pertained to that. Most of those songs didn't make it to the list....this time.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. by Jamila Pierre

Hey guys this is AMY here, A.K.A. @_Betty.Black_ of BettyBlack.info (Jamila's main BISH & guest "DJ" for this week's NCS STEREO). She first came to me with the idea to guest "DJ" a few weeks ago and proposed the idea as a way to bring a new perspective to this playlist from time to time, since then she's already had a takeover and there will be more to come...who knows...maybe your takeover will be next. This is a list of songs I like and have been listening to recently, I hope you enjoy my selection.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

This week was seriously about some of my favorite alternative albums from the back back days, even some classics. Most of my days as of late have been spent indoors, this has left me with much time to reflect and reminisce, and just hopping off the ledge of hitting the big 3-OH + 1...I can't help but dip back into the nostalgia bank frequently these days, while listening to my music library. I had no idea how much I'd miss being a teen. In any event, these songs bring back many nights that were riddled with acts of rebellion, mischievous fun & adventures, good music, breaking night, equally rebellious love interests, and "garage-band-member" crushes.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

Can we say FINALLY, to a more consistent warmer more cheery spring-like weather pattern. This weather is seriously putting me in better moods already, to the point where I almost forget I am not well. I've even taken my ass out more than usual these past few days, all in hopes of being enveloped by the sheer amazingness of said weather....I just couldn't pass it up. My music was definitely a reflection of my feels this week...or did it help to set my moods...? Eh, whichever it was, I was loving my playlist this week, it brought me back to all the warmer weather walks I used to take.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

This week has been craaaazy, so much has been going on in my personal life...but most importantly...so much has been going on in the world. I've been finding myself distracted or actually trying to distract myself, because even though I would never blind myself to what's going on in the world...I just needed a break. So I just kind of lost myself in my music. This week I found myself reverting back to some songs that brought back some teen year memories and even some younger ones, as for what made it onto this playlist...well why don't you just have a listen.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. by Jamila Pierre

Hey guys, this is Jeff here (Jamila's husband & guest "DJ" for this week's NCS STEREO). This week I'll be filling in for my wife because she's a bit under the weather. She first came to me with the idea to guest "DJ" a few days ago and proposed the idea as a way to bring a new perspective to this playlist from time to time and to give her a much needed break due to her condition these days, I thought it was a great idea and honestly I would do anything to help my wife in anyway I could. Hopefully she won't have much need to have a NCS STEREO takeover...but from time to time it will be nice to have a fresh voice or "ear" giving their input.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

This week was my birthday week! I have officially breached the barrier of the big THREE-O, and to be honest I didn't do very much "Turning up" as most would do for their Day-O-Birth. So in light of me not really going out into the world, and twerking about town, I just spent most of my time listening to tunes that paid homage to the twerk queen that decided to take the night off (not that I spend many nights on). Not everything on my list is meant to for straight booty-poppin'...but most songs do make me want to dance...that's just me.

As always, my focus is primarily on individual songs that I want to share with you! Now, some you may not like, some you may love, some you may remember, and some may be new to you and heading to your music device stat...either way, this is a peek into my music world and my taste. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

unnamed (3).jpg
unnamed (3).jpg

This week has been all kinds of hectic...actually....the past couple of weeks, so I went with a more toned down music selection in order to combat the 50 shades of shitty I've been feeling. If you're new to my blog, or to my social media, then you may not know that I suffer from chronic headaches (not that I make huge announcements very often about my severe ailment woes, all over my blog and social media like that..or very frequently). I do plan to do an depth post accompanied by a video all about it very soon actually. My goal isn't to Debbie down this NCS STEREO, don't get me wrong, I'm just filling you in. All in all, due to the kaka I've been experiencing, it has definitely shaped what I've been listening to this week.

#1 AltJ-Breezblocks: Aside from this song being amazing, the music video was expertly done. Additionally, this song (and every other song on this list) fits the feels of my week.

#2 Erykah Badu- Didn't Cha Know: Ok, so if you don't know about this song.....now ya know (and where have you been...?). This week it's been on serious repeat and has actually helped put me to sleep, and has been on the "Sexy Time" playlist as well. It's just one of those multi-purpose songs.

#3 Janet Jackson-Anytime, Any Place: This song is also a multi-purpose song, yes it has typically been featured on my "Sexy Time" playlist, but it has also done wonders to just help unwind my mind in general.

#4 Tricky- Hell Is Around The Corner: OMG, Tricky is my love! So many nights were spent listening to him and Portishead, throughout my teen years. I was obsessed! When I came upon this song, amongst my arsenal of songs, I was actually surprised that I almost forgot about it and was happy to start listening to Tricky again.

#5 Portishead- Roads: Didn't I mention (like a few playlists back) that Portishead was my JAM?! Ugggghhhh, I LOVE this song and so many of the songs from Portishead. If you're looking to sink deeeeeeeep into some chill vibes, then Portishead is for you...hands down.

#6 James Blake- Retrograde: I actually heard his name for the first time about two weeks ago at my most recent photo shoot. I never got a chance to actually listen to his music, I just took note of his name. Once I got home I did my little search, and HOLY SHIT! This song is just sooooooo Fucking good, excuse my French....or don't. This song was just what I needed to help me through the past week or so, and through my editing sessions.

#7 Clair De Lune- Flight Facilities: Yet another song that has help me turn in for the night, edit photos, enjoy my rainy Friday (which just passed), and de-fog my mind. It has quickly become a fave.

#8 Movement- Ivory: Unlike the artist James Blake, and how I hadn't heard from him until I'd gotten home from my latest phot shoot, I got the chance to hear this song from the Movement at the shoot. The moment this song came on, I just needed to know who was responsible for this awesome song. The thing is, it's not exactly a song with a lot of bells and whistles, but it is still just...everythang. It's repeat-worthy.

#9 XXYXX- About You: I honestly don't know if it's the song that makes the song or the song coupled with the video directed, filmed, and edited by Jeff Vash , that makes the song (or at least makes me enjoy it more). This ISH right here is also the ultimate in chill vibes to the max, and with the mondo headaches and spine aches I've been experiencing...chilled to the max is where it's at.

Last but not least, #10 Yael Naim- Toxic: Now this is a cover! I love a bunch of her other songs, but  I am in love with her cover of Britney Spear's song, "Toxic". It's just so damn good, and I appreciate her unique rendition.

There you have it, my top ten for this week!

Thank you for braving through that with me. Remember every Saturday I will bring you a new list of my top 10 songs of the week, in the NCS Stereo (NaughtCouture's Saturday Stereo) segment. Most times there's a focus on artists;  here I will be focusing predominately on specific songs, how they make me feel, what I like about the particular song, how I discovered them, and/or  sometimes the memories that come attached to them.

NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

I want to share with you guys my love of music. My focus will be on songs that I've been vibing to the most each week. Guys, there are so many songs I want to share with you!

#1 Yelle- A Cause Des Garcons: This song just reminds me of the time I worked at 99X on the lower east side and still lived in my tiny studio apartment in Bushwick (those were the days). I really miss that place, and those slightly balmy summer afternoons, fans in the windows, with this song (and many like it) just blaring throughout my tiny living space.

#2 Gorilla Zoe ft. Santogold & M.I.A- Get It Up: I honestly couldn't pinpoint the exact moment I came across this song right here, but I was definitely working in L.I.C at the time, it was a 7 train must-have, and it already featured two of my faves (Santogold & M.I.A). I can't say I've found a song from Gorilla Zoe that makes me feel it in my bones quite like this one, but then again I haven't done my due diligence.

#3 The Diplomats- Dipset anthem ft. Camron & Juelz Santana: Oh SNAP! But who doesn't remember this? This was on literal repeat in the back back days, so much nostalgia! This week I have kinda went with some "throw-backie" type sounds (you'll see as you progress...there is a theme here), I've just been in a bit of a mood this week and I'm sure it'll reflect.

#4 Talib Kweli & Hi Tek- The Blast: Yes I love his other songs, but this is the song that made me fall for his talent, it has everything anyone could ask for in a song. The video is pretty good too.

#5 Lilly Allen- Smile: I think it's safe to say we can all relate to this song in some shape or form, we've all been here. I fell in love with Lilly's voice and music, in just about 2006 (when this song can out), and the the video gave me much satisfaction as well.

#6 Lesley Gore- You Don't Own Me: Given my history with music I should have heard this song elsewhere....but I the first time I heard it was in the movie, " The First Wives Club". As much as I love the original, I can't help but love, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, & Bette Midler's rendition of the classic. This song is a serious "women's anthem".

#7 Oasis- Wonderwall: I told you I was in a nostalgia type of mood this week, right...? My playlist has had way more than just ten songs on it, but an ongoing theme has definitely been one that sparks memories and emotions of a carefree time in my life (or emotions that need sorting). If this song doesn't bring at least a little smirk to your face then I don't know what to tell you.

#8 Smith- Baby It's You: Ok, so here we have another case of an absolutely phenomenal song in it's original form (a classic), but the rendition performed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the movie " Death Proof", directed by Quentin Tarantino (a capella)....it just made me have a new appreciation for the song. It may not seem like much to some, but it's the little things that can make or break something for me. It was a fresh take on an oldie but a goodie (not to mention, the movie was pretty BOSS AF).

#9 The Coasters- Down In Mexico: This song, just like #8 on the list, was on the soundtrack to the movie "Death Proof". how amazing this ISH right here was going to be....I. Had. No. F'ing. Idea! Just listen to it and tell me your life hasn't been changed. If it hasn't....again...I can't help you.

Last but not least, #10 Samuel L. Jackson- Stack-o-lee: I've cleaned my house....what seems like 100x this week (sick and all), and the only thing that made it bearable was my music and that this song inevitably came on and was repeated a couple of time throughout my cleaning session. I swear I have little dirt demons that come in the middle of the night and make messes for me to clean in the morning (or maybe I'm just a crazy person...yea...maybe that's it).

NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

I want to share with you guys my love of music. My focus will be on songs that I've been vibing to the most each week. Guys, there are so many songs I want to share with you!

#1 The Knife- Heartbeat: If I'm not mistaken, I heard this song back on the cusp of 2009/2010, it was one of those songs that quickly became an  "on constant repeat" type of jam. If I was feeling down, if I needed to edit photos, if I needed some distraction as much as I needed to refocus...this song just had the ability to do that for me. I. Love. This. Song. And. You. Should. Too!

#2 Brick Mortar- Locked In A Cage: I actually heard this song playing during my husband's "Need For Speed" video game soundtracks. When it came blaring through our television speakers I could swear i'd heard it before (quite some time ago) that's how familiar it was, and like a starved animal I went on the hunt for my prey until I found this song (let's face it, I'm being dramatic...it didn't take much for me to find it). In any event I could listen to it all day.

#3 PJ Harvey- This Is Love: What was it, circa 2008? I don't even fully remember, but PJ Harvey and a few others (whom shall be mentioned soon enough) were in heavy rotation in my auditory canal. Her music is a serious MUST, SERIOUS!

#4 Marilyn Manson- I put A Spell On You: Let me just say, it's hard not to love and/or respect the different renditions of this song, but Marilyn just knocked it out of the park for me.  Now, it was no easy task to trump the sensation I got when I first heard Nina Simone bless this Jay Hawkins original; but here comes Mr. Manson with his take on this phenomenal song.

#5  Peaches- Boys Wanna Be Her: Though this is not only one of her more popular songs, but it's one her more lyrically tamed ones too. This whole album is the shit! If you're into electro-clash/experimental/alternative/punk-vibesque, and you like to jump all about half naked all around your home (especially when you're cleaning or just home alone) then "The teaches of Peaches" is for you.

#6  M.I.A- 20 Dollar: While everyone was going Ape-shit over "Paper Planes", I was all about this joint right here (this one and like two or three others). Don't get me wrong, "Paper Planes" was the shit too, when it first came out, but I'm always drawn too the least popular things too...the things that don't get the play they should

#7 Madonna- Human Nature: Do I really need to go into much detail here.......? Like....if you don't get this....I just...you just....you don't get life. That is all.

#8 Alice Smith- A Fool For You: So there I am, watching "Black Girls Rock 2014", and Alice Smith is introduced. This small framed FOX of a young woman comes on the stage and decides shes going to blow my mind out of the water. I could not believe her rendition of this song, I had to watch it like twenty times (the first go-around), and from then on I was hooked! Not to mention her performance that evening was absolute fire!

#9 Lupe Fiasco- Daydreamin': Lupe was such the breathe of fresh air, his beats were dope, his lyrical content matched, and he was yet another artist I had to have in heavy rotation (not to mention the beloved Jill Scott blessed the song with her beautiful voice). It was as if I was excited to have somewhere to go just so that I'd have a reason to throw my headphones on and blast this song (not just this song of course).

 Last but not least, #10 Timberland Magoo ft. Aaliyah &Missy Elliot- Up Jumps The Boogie: There's like no better way to end this weeks NCS Stereo...there really isn't. This song is nostalgia incarnate. You can play this jam anywhere and at any time, i'm almost certain that people will be bopping and bouncing to it. There are just certain songs that never (EVER) leave your system, this is one of them.

There you have it, my top ten for this week!

Thank you for braving through that with me. Remember every Saturday I will bring you a new list of my top 10 songs of the week, in the NCS Stereo (NaughtCouture's Saturday Stereo) segment. I want to share with you guys my love of music. My focus will be on songs that I've been vibing to the most each week. Guys, there are so many songs I want to share with you!

#1 Queens Of The Stone Age- No One Knows: This song, though it brings back many great memories, brings a tear to my eyes because I really miss music like this. I just love this song and all the nostalgia it brings.

#2 Lauryn Hill- I Find It Hard TO Say: When I first heard this song I cried real tears. It'd been a while since a song made me ugly cry (maybe I was already going through something and the timing was perfect) regardless this song is so relevant and will continue to be till the end of time.

#3 Bus Driver- Imaginary Places: I mean holy crap! You know when a song brings back the exact moment with a person? This one brings back the very first time my husband shared his music with me, like really shared it with me...and I wasn't disappointed. I became obsessed with this song for months, it was borderline ridiculous. The flow and beat, and the actual music video is like the artist was bringing us back to basics.

#4 Alanis Morisette- You Oughta Know: Who? I ask again....WHO didn't love or know this artist or this song?! If you happen to be the nay-sayer raising your hand...just be informed....you will be ignored (it's not your fault that you don't understand life's meaning). As a teen this song was always blaring through the headphones, I was Alanis, and EVERYONE OUGHTA KNOW!

#5 The Prodigy- Breathe: All hell broke loose when I first heard this song and saw the video, the dopeness is unreal. Keith Flint quickly became my favorite, and many of Prodigy's songs that followed won my heart as well. But, Maxim....#SWOON, when he popped up on the screen in the Breathe video....I was just in instant lust with that man.

#6 Electric Six- Danger High Voltage: This song is my go to, every time I say the word danger...refer to something dangerous....it's either playing in my head or I'm sing it. I can't help it, it's been with me since day one! I love this song, the music video is controversial, and everything about it deserves more hype nowadays than it's ever gotten before. What's funny is...every time I ask anyone if they've heard this song...no one knows what I'm talking about....and it's really starting to piss me off. How dare you (** Mrs. Big Head voice from Rocko's Modern Life**)

#7 Kid Art- 100 ft. Vinny Chase: I came across this gem through my homie Angelica, she let me listen to another Kid Art song and in listening to to that one I came across many of his other amazing ones. I also found that I really like Vinny Chase (he will be in future playlists...trust), so for the past few months I have been having their albums on heavy rotation.

#8 Cheif Keef- Hate Being Sober: This ISH right here tho........like.....you will get your entire life with it blaring through your speakers or headphones. No matter how hard you try to keep still, this song makes you move (and sometimes without even noticing). The breakdowns are sickening, yet another reason why trap music, or "trap-ish" music (which let's face it...if you're a party kid you know it's just a revamped hybrid of Gabber, Hip Hop, and some other ISH) is my JAM.

#9 Funkadelic- Get Into The Groove: Thuis is the ultimate party song, it's long, it gets people into a good mood, it brings back memories, and makes people want to dance. Now if you're strictly into Ratchery (no shade, I loves me some Ratchet party music) then this song might not be the song for you. All I know is when I hear it I begin to sway, and before you know it I'm all into it on the dance floor. I grew up with this so it's just feel good music.

Last but not least, #10 Michael Jackson- Dirty Dianna: This song is by far one of my absolute favorites from the late great. I feel like...in the world I grew up in...this song didn't get as much play and love as all his other amazing songs, yet I feel it's one of the best. And if you really want to feel this song for all it's worth you have to blast it while driving on the road at night with your windows down.

Well, there you have it, my top ten for this week!

#1 Gorillaz-Stylo: This song right here was on serious repeat throughout almost all of 2010, it was my going to the store music, my doing my hair music, my riding the bus music, my eating my damn breakfast music...this song followed me everywhere for a long time.

#2 FKA Twigs-Two Weeks: If you're looking to be deep inside your feelings (because let's face it, sometimes that is an absolute must), then this song is seriously for you...this artist is seriously for you. When I'm listening to her music you will often find me gazing off into the distance dramatically, lol.

#3 Ivy Levan-Hot Damn: Holy Cow!!! This song....just....this song....HOT DAMN. That is all.

#4 Selah Sue- This World: This song let alone the artist, is another in the long list of songs/artist that make me have deep feels. This is for sure rainy dayz music, and a music must-have.

#5 Portishead-Mysterons: To be honest I was having a hard time choosing which Portishead song to hit you with, there are seriously sooooo many. I figured this won't be the last to grace NCSSTERO so I should just pick one....and so I did.

#6 Nas-Ether: Ok so for a minute I was crushing super hard on Nas, I still have a thing for him...but he hasn't made me feel the way he used to in quite some time. In any event, I was rode hard for this song for the longest (I mean...just bars on bars), and I knew (still know) all of the words to it too.

#7 Rammstein-Du Hast: All I have to say is, awesome song, awesome instrumentals, awesome language, and once you translate it you will die laughing...and think the song rules even more (that's if you have a sense of humor...otherwise I can't help you).

#8 Logic- Shine On: You know when you get sucked into the YouTube portal, from video to video, just deeper and deeper (that's what she said)...yeah....that's where this one came from, while I was searching for another song altogether.  I love when that happens! And that (ladies and gentlemen) is yet another reason why I have such a large collection of music. Amazingly, this artists stuff is phenom, and I will be adding many more of his songs to my collection.

#9 Natalia Kills: Ok so the first song I heard from her I didn't care for but it was catchy AF (Problem), but I actually like this song and surprisingly the video too. It is also catchy AF....I hate when songs trap you like that (Super Saiyan Side-Eye)

#10 Demrick-Skyscraper: This is just the song that's meant for cruising, just blasting....and cruising (top down). I really do just love the beat and how it breaks down, it makes you wish you had those dramatic slow-motion scenes built into your life, lol.

Well, there you have it, my top ten for this week!

Thank you for braving through that with me. Remember every Saturday I will bring you a new list of my top 10 songs of the week, in the NCS Stereo (NaughtCouture's Saturday Stereo) segment. NCS STEREO {YOUR SATURDAY LINEUP}

by Jamila Pierre

If you know me then you know how important music is to me, how life isn't  complete without it, and how everything I do has a soundtrack to it. Over the course of my life I have made sure to be an open vessel when it's come to music and different lifestyles. Growing up in the L.E.S made it easy for me to intermingle with all walks of life, cultures, subcultures, belief systems, etc... I will forever be grateful for that. Those experiences fueled my thirst and love for music and it's many different genres (among other things), I spent many afternoons after school (and let's face it...sometimes instead of school) in Virgin Record stores at every open booth consuming every album I could. I frequented  Generation Records, Norms Records, etc... and in places like these I was able to talk music and link up with like-minded music-craving individuals. And though I am in no way considering myself a super nova music buff, my playlist is vast and it varies from such extremes as Ramzet (Death metal opera)- to Throw that ass in a circle by Lil Ronny Motha F...., to Circumstances by Buju Banton, to unravel by Bjork, and everything in between. So today while listening to some of my most favorite tunes, it hit me....I want to share with you guys my love of music. My focus will be on songs that I've been vibing to the most each week. Guys, there are so many songs I want to share with you!

If you read it this far... You're the real MVP.

LET'S GET STARTED!!!

 #1: Muse- Uprising. This song is amazing, and as amazing as it is blaring through your house while you clean... It's even more superb pumping through your headphones while you're walking to your destination. If you have any inkling of "Fuck The System" in you this song is for you.

#2: System Of A Down (ft. #WuTang)- Shame (Cover). I love and grew up with the original, but when I heard this version....SoGood!

#3: VV Brown- Back In Time This song was a morning bus commute repeat, when I worked for the city. It isn't a happy go lucky song but the rhythm and soulful nature did help me to de-funk my mind for a few moments before I had to deal with the masses. It also happens to be an amazing song, one of her less popular ones...which I don't understand because it's just GREAT!

#4: Sefyu- Molotov 4. This sexy man and his Moroccan-french rap... I have no clue what he is saying but the flow and his beats are undeniably dope! I think I have like every song he's ever done....and I've been listening to him for YEARS, you will see more of him on future NCSSTERO lineups.

#5: System Of A Down-Chop Suey. This is an "Oldie But A Goodie", this just brings on soooo many feelings of nostalgia. Every time it comes on I can't help but to sing along.

#6: Q Lazzarus- Goodbye Horses This song right here Oh so many memories are tied to it. If for some sad reason you've never heard this song I suggest you stop everything you're doing and get right on it, it's a music must-have!

#7: Nas-Shoot Em Up First can I say that I love Nas...? OK, soooooo the juxtaposition between lyrical content and origin of beat....yea... I'm here for it.

#8: Nneka-Africans  her voice is just effortlessly beautiful and her lyrical content is everything you could ask for as it pertains to political and spiritual awakening and#awareness.  #NCSSTEREO

#9: Fka Twigs-Pacify❤️ Fka Twigs gets me. I have a serious weakness for the marriage of the strange, unusual, sadness, beauty, and sensuality of this artist. I've been listening to her for a while and appreciate artists alike; those who experiment with the blending of voice and instrument, and atypical lyrical content. This is my kind of music, and is a music must-have.

Last but not least for tonight, #10: #KRS One-  Step Into A World (Raptures Delight) THIS ! He is one of my ALL time favs, this album is one of my ALL time favs, and what better note to end on...? There is none.

Thank you for braving through that with me. This is the first of many and I plan to find a better way to present it to you weekly. My goal, essentially, is to kind of let you into  pretty much what had a hand in making Jamila who she is today. Music is something I value very much so every Saturday I will bring you a new list of my top 10 songs of the week, in a segment I'm calling "NCS Stereo"(NaughtCouture's Saturday Stereo). Most times there's a focus on artists;  here I will be focusing predominately on specific songs, how they make me feel, what I like about the particular song, how I discovered them, and/or  sometimes the memories that come attached to them.
