As I've mentioned in a blog post about a year and a half ago, {HERE}, remixing your wardrobe is essential. I could only guess that it's hard for the average person to see all of these bloggers and social media famous personas, in what seems like an unlimited amount of clothing, and backed by brands that are more than willing to throw tons of new merch. their way. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that these same folks have spent their hard earned dime to support their growing shopping habits too...so before I get a barrage of people coming at me with torches and pitchforks in hand ready to chase me down, know that it's no shade...just observations. The debate isn't really about how they came to be swimming in Le sea of beautiful garb and baubles, it isn't even about going on a shopping freeze, this talk here is about how the average person should not disregard their very own closet...shiiiiiiit....how even the diva with the above average wardrobe shouldn't disregard their own closet.
This is easier said than done!
If you're anything like me, it's not about trends as much as it is about finding new pieces to incorporate into your existing wardrobe that refresh it. It's hard to pass up on a pretty new frock and the montage that begins once you lay your eyes upon something new (at least for me). But with all of that I find it supper important to find ways to refresh your outfit/ look with what you've got (especially when the duckets are running low).
As I mentioned in the post I wrote addressing this, titled "Don't mind if I Repeat" , all it takes is a swapping of a few accessories and shoes.
NC Style Tip: Statement pants....well...make a statement, so if you wear them more than once a week and do this say for two weeks straight (I know this sounds like a fashion diva's worst nightmare, but sometimes we go there), my advice is to just switch it up by pairing them with statement tops two or three of those times (whether it be mixing prints, or going monochrome). This is a way to take some of the attention away from the bottoms and draw their eyes up, give people something else to look at.
If you're looking for a subtle mix, in my opinion this is the best way to achieve it:
- Pick a print and stick to it (eg. In the first image I'm wearing the same print on top as I am on the bottom, wearing the same print affords you opportunity to play with a mixing of color scheme and/or print size) .
- Choose garments with base colors that compliment each other even without the print.
If you're worried about making too much of a statement, remember, you can't go wrong with choosing one or more of the colors in the pants and just rocking a plain top with them. The options are endless, really. We get so caught up in the new new, we forget that we have pretty much everything that we need.
